The Brewery
Welcome to Spitting Feathers

The Ministry of Beer (MoB) is a show of dissatisfaction with government (present and past) at their handling of Beer and Pubs. Beer is a low alcohol beverage produced in this country. Our pubs and beers are the envy of the world. Successive governments have failed to recognise the importance of these industries as businesses, manufacturers & employers and the important roles they play in their communities as assets and focal points as well as their importance in social cohesion.
How can government talk of a “Big Society” and then take steps that will destroy the village pub? The place that hosts and organises the local fete, Easter Egg hunt, weekly bingo or quiz and is home to the local football, darts and dominoes teams!

Beer duty hikes way beyond inflation have led to large increases in beer prices in pubs. These price hikes have led to “pre-loading”, the practice of drinking before visiting licensed premises (usually imported higher alcohol products that have not been subject to the same high tax rises). It is this rushed, unregulated drinking of high strength beverages that leads to public disorder and health problems. In contrast, licensed premises are the only places where people drink socially in a regulated environment.

Lots of us love and value our pubs but there are many who don’t cherish them, that take pubs for granted and assume they will always be there. They won’t unless we support them. And once they are gone we will all miss them and feel worse off- including those who took them for granted while they were open.
So here are the beers. You can drink them in protest and with indignation or simply enjoy and savour them, safe in the knowledge that things will be different when we’re in charge-

fools gold

Fool's Gold (3.8%) (Apr-June)
A beer brewed in recognition of government beer duty policy. This lunacy has lead to higher beer prices, lower beer sales and reduced tax revenue!
A golden single hop beer brewed using only UK grown First Gold hops.

red tape

Red Tape (3.8%) (Jan-Mar)
Unnecessary and pointless red tape is strangling pubs.
Endless form-filling, permits and license renewals burden finances and occupy time that should be spent productively.
This is a ruby ale brewed using a bit of common sense.

flase economy

False Economy (3.8%) (Oct-Dec)
A pale beer brewed with so much hop (added at 5 different stages in the brewing process) that it probably costs the ministry more than it recovers in revenue.

dark arts

Dark Arts (3.5%) (July-Sept)
A tribute to “spin” and the propaganda that beer is bad for us. This smooth, dark beer is nutritious and low in alcohol.
